[CNY'2015] Oceans of Seafood: Japanese inspired Yu-Sheng

With Chinese New Year just around the corner, the pressure is on, to get hold of a jaw-dropping yu-sheng to impress the family. If the normal yusheng just doesn't cut it for you anymore. Look no further, Oceans of Seafood is proud to present its unique take on the traditional yusheng with "Vibrancy of Life". A mainly sashimi dominated dish composed of the freshest seafood flown in from Tsukiji Fish Market. Impressive to look at, and even more eloquent on the palate, the 'atas-salad' stole my breathe away with its generous flourishing of rock lobster, salmon and amberjack sashimi. The Japanese inspired goma sauce had a nutty and slight acidic tang that pulled the entire medley together. To further drive it's origins of inspiration home, imported vegetables from Japan are incorporated into the yusheng, take for example the red and white radishes that really add to that quintessential crunch. Priced at $128++ (Dine-in) and $128+ (take away), this out of the ordinary yusheng is available for pre-order now and will also be purchasable for a limited period from 31st Jan to the 5th March.

Apart from their CNY offerings, Oceans of Seafood also launches other exciting food promotions and I had a sneak preview of this unveiling. First to lead the way is the Seafood Hotpot ($38++). Personally, I feel that this dish lags behind in terms of flavor, the seafood just a tad overcooked for my liking. Stick with the raw items for a guaranteed enjoyable session.

Another new promotion on the menu is the Perfect-two Seafood Platter ($66) comprising 4 pieces of the most succulent pacific oysters ever, fish catch of the day, 6 pieces of prawns, manila clams and seasonal vegetables. Served with sides of garlic butter, sambal chili and miso butter; these were good tools to mask the chalky texture of some of the seafood on the platter. I suppose if the fish were grilled, this dish would have fared ten miles better in terms of quality.

New Pasta offerings ($12.80++) are now available during lunch from a rather extensive collection of 7 pastas. My favourite by far had to be the Smoked Salmon in Cream Pasta. Not the best rendition you can around for sure, but definitely useful to have as an option should you be on a seafood quest and happen to be have younger kids in your care.

Other things worth looking out for on your visit would be the Negitoro Chirashi ($18) during lunch time. With Northern Bluefin tuna flown in directly from Japan, you can't get any fresher than that!
