On the Table, a sizable cafe hidden away in the sleepy western suburb of Pasir Panjang, has always been in my good books. Ever since my first visit last year (you can read about it here), I have always preached about its affordable cuisine and generous portions.
Second time's a charm as well. With it's amicable disposition obviously winning over my regular patrons along the way - Dinner on a peaceful Tuesday sees a full-house in the dining room. With tables being turned over rapidly at the blink of an eye. The service staff, as if feeding off the energy of the brisk business, were a vigilant lot.
We started off with the Spicy Tomato Swimmer Crab Linguine ($16), a feisty bowl of crab meat laden pasta. Fans of the ever popular combination will spring on this affordable version, but just between us, I would have liked it better if the pasta was a tad less cooked and the spices and seasonings with a little more fight in them.
With its basic formula set firmly, it's no wonder the Ultimate Croissant ($13) graced the tables of many diners around the cafe grounds. You betcha bottom dollar that this would instill hunger for breakfast fare no matter the time of the day. Honey glazed bacon, ham, mayo, honey, scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese all snuggled into the crevice of a buttered up crisp croissant. What's there not to love?
Spoilt by Holqa's version, these Crispy Honey Wings ($10) came across a bit blah to me. The fried chicken could have used a better coating to ensure its crispness even after being tossed in honey and spices. That being said, those who have a penchant for finger foods would revel in this dish.
Major thanks to Pickat for sponsoring the dinner!
