Deli Hub Catering: In the land of 'All' Smiles

Hosting a get-together but can't afford time in the kitchen? Don't worry, I've had my fair share of such experiences. That's when caterers are a godsend (cue the angels singing hallelujah as two mirthful deliverers came knocking on my doors with the loot) and the best part of the experience is that you don't have to feel guilty about feeding your guests sub-par food, especially when Deli Hub Catering is on board. So rid yourself of those anxiety attacks and play the hostess with the mostest with only the elaborate drinks program to worry about; well, at least that's what I'll be most concerned about circumstantially.

Deli Hub is Neo Garden's Halal-certified catering arm, making it the perfect choice if you've got Muslim friends over. The same strict food standards are adhered to with a few interesting food programs thrown into the mix to keep things stimulating. In fact, as part of their "Around The World with Deli Hub" campaign, the company has recently launched their Thai-rrific party set following the highly successful Mediterranean promotion. As kitschy as the name goes, the food is bloody delicious!

The only mind boggling thing, being the loose term 'mini' in the case of the promotion set as it's beguiling to think that the portion sizes should be quantified that way. For just $99 ($128 on weekends), you get a complete set of 5 dishes, served up in portions that are good for 10 people. If you, like me don't harbour the highest expectations with regards to catered food, then Deli Hub's food is astounding and comforting. Quietly complex but honest, the kitchen shows commitment to flavor above everything else, including the sweet finale, Chilled Mango Sago.

One wouldn't normally associate catered food as 'Instagramable' (yes, judge me for bringing up the topic), but the spread here is the antidote to every brown flushed, deep-fried bullshit catered fare. The Green Curry Chicken is done with a flourish, the snap and texture of semi-spicy red-chili hunks calling to attention additional spoonfuls of the accompanying Fried Rice with Basil and Crab Meat. It doesn't take an astute eye to observe that the family was taking turns at sieving through the heaping pile to scoop up the best bits - the sweet stir fried crab meat strewed so generously across. I don't even have room to rhapsodise about the Tom Yum Fish Cake because these were all gone in one seating, and mind you, we were feeding only 6 mouths instead of the recommended 10! Puffed up discs offer something a little different from the commonplace denser versions, it's springiness and intriguing spice mix achieves a goal that is "texturally rewarding". Be warned that these are incredibly addictive.

The Stir-fried Baby Kai Lan isn't outstanding, but serves its purpose in balancing out the diet. My only comment was that the size of the greens have to be reworked, but that's nothing a pair of scissors cannot solve.

Lunch concludes with the all-important dessert course. The Chilled Mango Sago left us rather smitten, the sweetish coconut milk mixture balanced out by a lavish serving of piquant mango cubes. Make sure to stir up the dessert with the ladle provided as the treasure trove of ingredients will settle below the ice.

The Thai-rrific Mini Party Set is available for $128++ per set with a weekday promo price at $99++ from Monday to Friday. For what it's worth, the 5 dish entourage deliver a lunchtime pleasure that one wouldn't normally anticipate. I spent the next few meals harping after that green curry, and satisfying my cravings in small doses, thanks to my successful plan to stow away the remainder of our feast in cold storage.
