Tin Hill Social: New Brunch Menu

0
COM

On Sunday mornings, the courtyard of Tin Hill Bistro comes alive. Expats touting 'dad-bods' and nursing their cold pints bask in the sun whilst the pitter-patter of kids footsteps followed by gregarious chains of laughter percolate the crisp air.

Conspicuously lacking in this weekend tableau are flocks of bleary-eyed 20 somethings, $18 plates of fluffy pancakes decked out with edible flowers (of all things) and towering stacks of monstrous milkshakes that serve more of an aesthetic purposes over gratification. Tin Hill Bistro remains a secret of mine, not one for the more fashion-forward, young and moneyed. This is the charm of the establishment, one that's not overlooked by the neighbourhood and its patrons - and that's just fine with me.

What I was trying to do was solve a problem. It's December, you can guess the problem. The... OMG! I have so much food entry backlog to clear. Let's ogle at my #foodporn photos instead Problem. You can only imagine the amount of build up in the 'bank' given my tortoise rate of expressing myself. Lol, I would like to think of it as 'managing expectations' since plowing into the field of the 'newest and bestest' just crimps my style.

Speaking of bestest, these images, albeit from a long while back, made me stop and stare.

Yes, it's non other than Cafe de Hong Kong and their legendary French Toast. Disclaimer: This may induce severe lust and will cause an almost immediate response of kicking off your PJs in a bid to get there. They don't open on Mondays though. Just saying.

20F Specialty Coffeehouse: Where Chicken makes way for Duck

Imagination worth the added price? Now, that's worth debating over at newbie cafe 20F Speciality Coffeehouse located along Foch road just right beside a Pig Organ Soup institution .Yes, so an unhosted tasting would mean a mandatory partaking of their illustrious Duck and Waffle combination. I'm sorry, but I can't hold out against the lure of a rendition that debacles my love for chicken and waffles.

Entering the shady alcoves of the cafe, the back premises offering several twists and turns in terms of ambiance; things could get interesting, I thought. In fact, the rest of the meal did unravel in a fun sort of way. In ways that those who love cafe cuisine wish would happen more often in Singapore.

Shelter in the woods: Be still my heart

Shelter in the woods is every bit a restaurant I would choose for any occasion. It's straight up heart-warming classics highlighted by the culinary dexterity of Chef Masashi. Finally, a press release that tells it as it is, "The result is a cuisine of rare depth and purity. Ingredients and seasoning achieve a distinct presence and discreetness... The food literally blooms" ~ and truly, dining here is a treat for the senses. Not only is the service flawless, but so is the food. Stepping into Shelter in the woods is akin to walking into a time portal where time literally stands still as you tuck into your fare, wide eyed stares and all.
