Do I love you because you're beautiful
Lea Salonga... ahhh! Pratically dragged my mum to watch the Rodgers and Hammerstein - Cinderella musical at the esplanade. It was all a magical performance.. and Lea Salonga, utter brilliance. The song that struck me the most was 'Do I love you because you're beautiful'; suddenly, it all made sense to me. Do you fall in love with someone because in the world's eyes she/he is perfect, or will an imperfect being transform into someone beautiful when you've fallen in love? that all flaws be hidden from your eyes, as though shrouded by a mysterious cloud when he/she becomes the object of you deepest fantasies and hopes? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as they say... this is so true.
this version is from the TV version of Rodger and Hammerstein's Cinderella. A bit more cinematic of course. Much prefer the musical version which can be viewed
hereor are you beautiful because I love you?
Am I making believe I see in you
a girl too lovely to be really true?
Do I want you because you're wonderful,
or are you wonderful because I want you?
Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream
or are you really as beautiful as you seem?
Am I making believe I see in you
a man too perfect to be really true?
Do I want you because you're wonderful,
or are you wonderful because I want you?
Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream
or are you really as wonderful as you seem?
at least for me, I live in blissful knowledge that my loved one has become the fixation of my admiration and adoration because I love him...
Double Bay Restaurant

Served with tomato ketchip, vinegar and tar-tar sauce, it was the perfect combination with the fish fillets. Simple and non-descript. The fries on the side were thick steak cut pieces, fried lightly such that its starchy contents, soft and moist were the stars of the show. I was delighted of course, since I had always had a thing for 'soggy' fries. These were perfect.

Key to My Heart
Key To My Heart
by Amanda Marie
I had closed the door upon my heart
and wouldn't let anyone in
I had trusted and loved only to be hurt
but that would never happen again
I locked the door and
tossed the key as
hard and as far as I could
My heart was closed for good
Then you came into my life and
made me change my mind
just when I thought that
tiny key was impossible to find
that is when you held out your hand
and proved me wrong
inside your palm was the
Key to My Heart
You had it all along
Happy Birthday to you my darling babe...
Tales of a Japanese maiden and the Italian Baker

Photos of the lovely dessert box I got from my mum's Japanese boss in return for baking linzer sables for him to bring back to his family upon request. Financiers, sables and many other buttery concoctions alike. This box lead to many smiles and jovious laughters...

Verdict: The tiramisu is defintely the best I've ever had in Singapore. Quickly replacing the status of Galbati (rail mall). However, priced at $8.80 per cup, it seems a much higher price to pay. Nonethless, the amount of liquor and right constituency and texture to the entire dessert just makes it worthwhile. The chantilly cake.. that was definitely dreamy. Speaking of cream cakes, I never quite fancied one till i laid my eyes on this one. Being the signature cake of the pastry boutique, it had a large crown to fill in the taste test. And without a doubt, this dessert clearly emerged a winner. I was hooked. The light sponge cake soaked in rum and milk provided a soft and almost etheral finish to the custard and chocolate fillings within. The addition of white chocolate shavings made for contrast in textures between the monotany of the billowy soft cake. And as every spoonful melted in the mouth gently and almost gracious like a princess, I then came to realise why so many people had chosen this cake to be the cake for their special occasion. It was a blend of perfect harmony.. a happy thing after all...

These cupcakes were done as a Xmas order for a lovely lady to her dearest colleages. 50 different faces, 50 different names and descriptions...suffering in silence as i recieve text messages from the exhausted bf who is currently outfield. Can't hear his voice as he needs to be tactical. What crap...
Miss you.
What goes up must come down.
By this time, my fingers, only protected by the yarn gloves that i had carried along to prevent rope burns were now numb and incredibly painful from the extreme cold. Taking photos or even handling the camera was not one of my first priorities at the moment. Kudos to the few whom i saw whipping out their dslr to capture the moment. For me, I was just glad to have made it all the way so far. Despite the many situations encountered along the way... Sucess was sweet.
Kota Kinabalu 08-09
A sunset.. another man's sunrise.
Impulsive.. indeed. A rash calling saw me jetting off to Kota Kinabalu for the last week of my holidays over the new year festivities. What I thought would be somewhat of a more relaxing trip turned out to be the exact opposite. Jammed packed with activities and 'extreme sports', my muscles literally ached from the trauma.
Upon reaching our destination after a short 2 1/2 hours flight, we quickly checked into our hotel 'Beverly Hotel' which in no way beared any resemblence to a luxury suite you had in mind when the name was mentioned. But it wasn't a far cry apart from the fact that our Junior Suite had only 3 beds. Thank goodness I won the bet and eagerly snatched up the chance to slp on the couch for 2 days out of 3 before we moved to the next hotel. Poor Bro had 2 days on the floor. Yikes..
Next we went to settle the program for the next few days. White Water Rafting on Tues, Hot Springs and Canopy Walk on Wed and then.. Mount Kinabalu from Thurs-Fri. *shivers*. For the final activity, we had to settle with just I and my Brother as the entire package price (including permits, mountain guides, lodging, food..) had risen exhorbitantly over the years and nothing prepared us for the ridiculous price tag. Since Kor is the only one in the family who hadn't scale the mountain, I was tasked to be his companion as climbing the mountain alone wouldn't be much of an exciting affair. Honestly speaking, I was frightened by the idea of scaling the peak for a second time since my first experience 2 years ago was more torture than anything else. Still, someone has got to give...
our long journey to the Padas River rafting experience
The next day, we embarked on a super duper long journey to the heavily forested, untamed waters of the Padas River admist the Kinabalu National Park. Travelling via a range of transportation including bus, an open topped train which was nothing more than a loading deck on wheels and speed boat, I was a little exhausted from the trip alone. But once we stepped into our inflated rafts and gripped on to our paddles, the adrenaline rush took over.
Faced with 6 foot monster waves, the churning muddy waters of the river channel and not to mention a boat load of heavy and LAZY ang mohs.. it just strikes you that there would to have to be lots of hardwork involved... Despite Mummy being a free-rider, she had hardly any guts to stick out the water-proof camera to snap photos of the rough and crazy journey as we slithered down the river course. Guess she ain't much of an adrenaline junkie. I and my Brother on the other hand had a GREat time! our aching arms and back muscles testimont to the large amount of paddling we did.We made a quick stop over for lunch at the company quarters after a 10km run followed by another 12km trip down the river. During the second trip, we encountered a rather flat portion of the river with gentler currents hence we decided to go for a swim. Kor got pushed off the boat by his angmoh neighbour and i followed close suite. Okay.. so I do admit that chasing after the boat in front was a ridiculous idea.. but the least that they could do was to let me touch the end of the boat after a copious amount of heart pumping action as i swam downstream. Instead, they started rowing away as they saw me and my Bro approaching. What evilness!!
All in all, a fun-filled day. miraculous disappearance of flabby arms and not to mention a terrible tan line. haha.
The next day, we decided to take it easy since we wanted ample rest and relaxation before our trip up the Mountain tomorrow. Hence my dad suggested driving up the mountains to visit the poring hot springs and canopy walk.
Having done the above two activities before in my last trip, I was a little unwilling a first but obliged later since I didn't have much say in decisions such as this. Nonethless, it was still a good family outing and the cool blasts of air from on top the mountains did manage to lift my spirits just a little.
At the Hot Springs, we opted for the private rooms instead of the common baths. 15 ringgit for an hour.. isn't that a steal. Still, soaking in a hot spring bath in the midst of a tropical jungle wasn't my idea of luxury. In the end, it came across as stiffling and created a bit of head-splitting action. We were out of there in no time...
Following our trip down the mountain back to town, we concluded the day with a seafood galore at the salut seafood resturant. Situated at a darkened, ulu spot near the mangrove swamps, this was an unlikely location for a resturant. Yet, the large amount of familes gathered in the vicinity was testimont to the quality of food served up. Not only was the seafood unbearably fresh, the variety of shellfish caught me offguard. With 5 sorts plated on our dining table. Over the course of 5 days here in Kota Kinabalu, We subsequently ate 3 seafood dinners, each feast slightly different from the next. I swear i wouldn't touch seafood for the next month... *groanz*
for photos of the Mount Kinabalu expedition.. stay tuned to my next entry!!!Quiet Time
First accomplishment of the year? For me, it was the fitful struggle as I scampered up the highest peak in Southeast Asia, Mount Kinabalu (Sabah) on the 1st of Jan'2009. Sometimes, on all fours even, with limbs stretched out to mimic the prowess of a 4WD yet to no avail. With the whistling of the passing winds rising over the granite slopes of the boulder topped mountain and nothing but the throbbing heart beat racing from exertion to interrupt, the silence resonating from the black lands stretched far beneath our feets was close to a deafening ordeal. Yet thru the numerous leg cramps and the fatigued muscles crying out for fresh oxygen with every single step, I had a new lease on life. Perhaps being a strong person in a weak body was to be my greatest challenge yet. But with anything, perserverance and effort would pay off. Endure.. i must.
The book launch, under my Uncle's wishes were to have an intimate settings complete with a fine spread of desserts and sweet nothings. This I gave my best shot at, with a complete set of 10 assorted desserts ranging from cookies, tartlets, parfaits to miniature cupcakes. My favourites of the lot were definitely the Mango Cheesecake Parfait with Chocolate Cashew Cookie Crumbs and the miniature Midas Cups (chocolate caramel tartlets).
And despite the initial fears of not having enough food to deal with 50+ guests, I was left with the ordeal of having to clean up the left overs due to the onset of a smaller turnout than anticipated. *groanz*.. overall, It was an enriching experience, earning praises and suspicious 'thank-you's' from the guests including Ivan Heng! astounding..
Yet, despite the promising year to come, several things in my life had come to a stand still. Like a train derailed. There I was.. stuck.. marooned. And subconsciously, all alone...
