PABLO Cheese 'tarts' in the NUDE

Just like how there are split camps for "biscuits or cream" for Oreos, the same goes for tarts.

Some prefer the crusts, others fancy the filling. If you're a fan of cheese tarts, but only fancy the cream cheese filling, rejoice! PABLO Singapore is releasing Nude, a cheese "tart" without the crust.

Being the first city outside of Japan to launch this product, Nude boasts a sweet treat that is incomparable to any other. Carefully peeling the "tart mould" reveals a glorious, delicate and soft cream cheese body. A slight jiggling movement will send the tart wobbling carelessly from side to side. Ariana Grande on her gym bike would approve. The slow-mo function has never come in more useful and bearing witness to the swoon-worthy sight invoked in me, a deep sense of admiration for the pastry chefs who invented this ungodly confectionery.

After indulging in a bit of jiggling action, I approached the dessert with caution. My spoon sinking into the filling like quick sand. I would describe the filling as melty and airy, the cream cheese flavor bordering on insipid. A few spoonfuls later and I was underwhelmed. Where was the cheese flavor?  If I wanted to feed on air, I would have. Cheese is given a back seat here, and I wasn't impressed. Diners who prefer a more subtle cheese flavor will take a liking to this. For other diners, I recommend other dishes on Pablo's menu instead.

If you would like to satisfy both your cheese tart and matcha cravings, without breaking the calorie count bank, reach for the Matcha Mini. The tart crust was of the right thickness and baked sufficiently to achieve a golden brown without causing the tart to be too tough. The filling was a good balance of matcha and cream cheese. First bite in highlights the grassy notes of matcha, and slowly succumbing to the sweet savoury waves of cream cheese. We devoured this in seconds.

For those who prefer something a little more savoury, the Honey Cheese Toast is a great option. This is a grilled cheddar toast topped with brie and served with honey. The toast itself, just crisp enough on the outside in excellent contrast to its fluffy innards deserves bonus points. Despite going heavy on the honey, the toast was not sickeningly sweet; in fact, the honey blends seamlessly with the savoury cheddar. The Brie cheese working more towards textural role play than rousing the savoury profile. Overall, a delightful tea time treat.

In its entirety, while the Nude is an innovative addition to the menu, I personally wouldn't recommend it to those who relish in the more predominant presence of cream cheese. Other items such as the mini tart and cheese toast are lively alternatives. That being said, Pablo's prime location complete with chic finishing and the lack of an overwhelming crowd makes it a very chill place to find some down time in the middle of town. I will be back.
