Rasa Fiesta Singapura: How we survived a Rum fueled 5-Bar Crawl (Adventure)
Ways to survive a bar crawl. Number one, have an exit strategy.
The odd thing was, there was no need for such a excuse the night of our epic bar crawl organised by Accela.Asia and Destination Beverage in conjunction with Rasa Fiesta Singapura - the rambunctious vitality of the crew (some of whom were already intoxicated at this stage) giving no excuses to wiggle out of the room. Then again, there was the rum.

The pivotal moment for me in my cocktail foray came when I first took a deep incestuous whiff of that Kaya Toast Cocktail at Bitters and Love (as if recreating scenes of smothering myself in Naz's smooth locks. I think I'm going to need a moment). That was many moons ago, my love for sweet things dwindling down to a dull but omnipresent mode; the fixation switching tides to tipples that are a bit more persuasive, more lethal. But, you're not here to listen to the story of my journey to alcoholism. You're here to read up about my recommendation for this 6 mad days of a journey to a thousand tipples.
If you haven't already heard (where have you been?), Singapore Cocktail Festival comes back with a bang this year, with the same mad-house antics of International guest bartender shifts and workshops happening all around town with the exception of the Festival Village on 99 Beach Road working as the heart of the festivities. No more wristbands. Good God!!! Just good old bar-hopping sans the restrictions of having to manage expectations with $14 cocktails. That being said, most bars will be running promotions on the specialty cocktails curated just for the festival, so do keep a look out at all the 45 participating establishments dotting the island.
Wine Fiesta 2016: [RISING ROOTS} celebrates Farm-to-Table food and Natural Wines
Good news for all wine enthusiasts - The annual 9th Wine Fiesta Singapore is happening this weekend from 20 - 23 October 2016 at Clifford Square amidst the beautiful backdrop of Marina Bay Skyline and along the Fullerton Bay Hotel. Presented by The Straits Wine Company, this outdoor extravaganza boasts a huge tentage featuring over 350 wine labels, 70 global winemakers and more importantly, a combined vast culture of wine-making and appreciation sessions. Gracing the celebration are some of the city's most renowned chefs from Burnt Ends, Cheek by Jowl, Tin Hill Social, Meat Smith, Good Chance Popiah, Tamarind Hill and Morsels.
Every story has a beginning - this year, The Straits Wine Company is going back to their roots in a whole new exciting way. Debuting at Wine Fiesta 2016, four out of nine natural wine producers from the Basket Range region in Adelaide Hills will be features with a slew of others from New Zealand and Australia, making this year's theme 'Rising Roots' all the more poignant. "Basket Range marks a new defining moment in wine culture... a new chapter in the unique story of wine making history in Australia." Group CEO Ms Kathy Lim enthuses, adding that "enjoying wine should be a fun and more pleasurable pursuit... forget about intimidating, formal settings with conventional Western cuisine."

If you did patronize the SAVOUR event in May this year (read about my experience over here); you would have known what a huge success it was in combining the prowess of several home-grown culinary talents and their mentors together with the magic of fresh produce from far-away lands all under one roof! Good news! as SAVOUR makes a second comeback this year with an event that piques the interest of wine-savvy members with a larger-than-life wine market housing over 400 labels of wines, specially curated from all over the globe.

Running for a limited time only - " Doya No Ushi No Hi" hits the town running once more at Mikuni in Fairmont Hotel Singapore.
From the 19th July to 6th August'2016, guests will be granted the opportunity (of a lifetime) to sample the special 6-course summer lunch menu highlighting unagi, or eel from Aichi in Nagoya prefecture. I, for one, did not know that unagi was traditionally consumed for its vitality boosting properties; Chef Moon Kyung Soo's masterful breakdown of the Chinese character "é³—" emphasizing that point.

It's that time of the year again for Greenwood Fish Market's 4th World Oyster Festival!
Having attend the previous year's session, expectations for this years round up were sky high, spurred on even more by the prospects of new grounds at Quayside Isle where the balmy seaside breeze fortifies the need for more seafood!
The new Greenwood Fish Market and Bistro at Sentosa Cove features a light and airy set-up. Walls are dealt away with and instead, the longish restaurant boosts a mix of al-fresco and indoor seatings tinted in muted shades of blue, marbled wood and silver accents. Hosting a mini market place on its peripherals, the shelves are stocked with decently priced wines, dry produce and chunks of handsome looking fish perfect to indulge in a little kitchen experimentation with.
But what you're really gunning for are the oysters. Especially so, this time of year when Greenwood Fish Market brings in 20+ different oysters, each with its unique characteristics to be enjoyed fresh and unadulterated. The World Oyster Festival lasts about a month from 1st - 31st July'2016 and is held at both it's first outlet as well as the newly minted Quayside Isle branch to grant more people the opportunity to sample the varieties they have to offer.

Reasons why its worth paying a visit to SAVOUR 2016?
I would say, because of Fried Chicken. Hallelujah. Or maybe complimentary entry to festival grounds? hmph... if that isn't reason enough to warrant a visit, we'll just have to dive a little deeper.
First things first, to make sure we're on the same page, patrons of last year Savour 2015 (you can read my wrap-up here) would have noticed that premises have been severely downsized. No, it's not because officiates have lower budgets but because they've decided to space it out over 3 sessions throughout the year to pique the interest of gourmands and specific target groups; in which I share a strong affinity with the second group of 'outcasts'.
The 2016 SAVOUR calendar looks a little something like this
SAVOUR Gourmet: 12 - 15 May
SAVOUR Wines: 8 - 11 Sept
SAVOUR Christmas: 17 - 20 Nov

Decked out in a little LBD, glass of champange in one hand and the Sunset Limonata from Tippling Club in the other (yes, I do admit to being quite the alcohol hoarder), I surveyed the sprawling grounds of Tamarind Hill, devising a plan in my head as to how to approach the debauchery with certain order, yet still retaining some sanity afterwards, enough, to attend a wedding without tipping over at least.
Last week, I had the fortune of attending the cocktail evening at Tamarind Hill, featuring a astonishing spread of high cuisine and tasty tipples from a multitude of WGS's 2015 partners. Some of the restaurants which I was highly anticipating included Burlamacco, ALBA 1836, Wooloomooloo, Level 33 and Punjab Grill; not to mention cocktails wringed out by the talented folks of Tippling Club. Honestly, the sight of the bustling action and the excitement evoked was a little hard to handle. However, after calming the tingling nerves with a couple of drinks, I strike out, and trust me when I say this; I went hard.

Perhaps I had come with too much expectations. Having attended the Taste of Sydney event last year (read about my experiences here), I had arrived with a benchmark of experiences to live up to. I'm not saying that SAVOUR 2015 had failed my hyped up intentions. Just that it could have been so much more, with better logistics (more seating area) at hand and definitely more amicable service staff around. Jovial attitudes, that's what lacking!
The SAVOUR food festival is an annual event that aims to bring together the palates of gourmands on a relentless pursuit for the best food and drink experiences. Bolstered by the powerhouse of renowned experts and wizards of the culinary field, the 2015 line-up features a mind boggling 50 dishes including some from highly acclaimed Michelin starred chefs.
Here's a quick overview of what I sunk my teeth into.
