Lewin Terrace: Ichigo Delight Strawberry Dessert Buffet

Perched on top of Singapore's iconic Fort Canning Park and surrounded by lush greenery is Lewin Terrace, a Japanese-French fusion fine-dining restaurant housed in a historic building.

Lewin Terrace has introduced the Ichigo Delight Strawberry Dessert Buffet, which features a wide range of desserts made from Chitose strawberries, which are the best of its kind.

Stepping into the beautiful verandah and on wooden flooring temporarily made me feel like I was teleported to another world. The gorgeous interior, making my day even before I had begin indulging in the buffet.

VLV Riverside - New Riverside Zi-Char Dining Experience

COM

Zi Char is a never-dying trend in Singapore, with crowds willing to bear with the uncomfortable coffeeshop stools, creaking fans and the shouting aunties for a sumptuous meal of home-style dishes. But what if I told you that these dishes can also be enjoyed in a more comfortable setting; one that overlooks the Clarke Quay riverfront, with cushioned chairs and even live music to boot?

Look no further than VLV Singapore, as they have recently introduced their newest dining concept, VLV riverside, which offers diners local zi char favourites with a twist.

Bird Bird: Gut-busting meals that are guaranteed not to get you laid.

I partook in this meal with someone. And as much as the company was great, I wish it was a lone venture; at least then the only person who was left unsatisfied when I took my clothes off would be me. However, small victories like stumbling upon crispy fried chicken in the suburbs should be celebrated, so I'm going to push past this glut of negativity.

Fried Chicken revolution has been a long standing infatuation within the local community, Prawn paste chicken, chicken and waffles, Chicken 65, Indonesian Ayam Goreng, Korean Fried Chicken, there's a flavour profile to match every occasion. Unfortunately, my obsession with Southern Fried Chicken hadn't received much love from the general public, and over the years, we haven't been blessed with multiple vendors. My firm favourite still being The Beast for their out of this world 24-hours buttermilk fried chicken, waffles with yeasted centers and a jar of magic bourbon maple butter sauce.

Lucky Bar: Asian Inspired Libations in the heart of Holland Village

Seasoned observers who have visited the dining room of Full of Luck Club's sprawling 2nd storey complex would have noticed the little space in the back with the words 借酒消愁 splashed on it's grey washed walls. This is to become Lucky Bar which has recently rolled out proper operations as the neighbourhood cocktail bar or watering hole, a role that's in dire need of filling since it's haydays as a expat region shrouded in cheap beer towers and shisha smoke. This may just be the perfect solution to anyone looking for a late night hang in Holland Village without the guilty calories of a chocolate mud pie or ice cream sundae.

Borrowing the tricks of a successful genre, Lucky Bar offers an Asian-inspired cocktail program deployed with the additional arsenal of a full fledged Cantonese kitchen to provide the creative muscle in the food department.

Murphy's: Not your regular Fish & Chips monger in the heartlands

COM

Murphy's follows the route of your classic cafe settings albeit caught in a past era, the kitschy paper advertisements stuck to glass walls, small little book corner constructed for book swaps tucked into the corner and unorthodox kitchen specialities yielding a stronger voice. It's a grand narration of what the joint was meant to deliver - British styled Fish & Chips with a side of Victorian charm; yet these notions have been seemingly watered down by expectations and survival instincts. Cakes, all-day-breakfast and salted egg yolk calamari occupy the menu for a more wholesome family approach.

FORT by Maison Ikkoku: 12-course omakase and a bevy of cocktails. What diet?

COM

It's been awhile friends since I last penned down my biased thoughts and discrimination. Here's one to roll off the short week...

Maison Ikkoku, as I've touted before, is an institution. And even more so now that it has occupied the grounds at the Singapore Pinacotheque De Paris; a luscious sprawling minimalistic cocktail den splayed in cool colors of violet and blues to lure the passive drinkers. Here at FORT, Executive Chef and Senior Master Mixologist, Ethan Leslie Leong applies his cocktail (perceptibly expensive as I've noted in 2013 : read here) techniques with a balanced selection of food, delicate soups, salads, maki and other signature dishes made from scratch within the same fundamental grounds. A pretty impressive feat if you've take a look at the make-shift bar counter doubling up as a fully functional kitchen.

For just $68++, one can sink your teeth into a progressive 12-course omakase with no obligations of cocktails at all, though one must admit, the lures are evident, especially when only bar-seats are available. And if you should choose to, trust that you'll be in safe hands with resident mixologist Matteo Cadeddu working his magic behind the bar -  his dabble in alcoholic libations fuelled by memories and inspirations from his homestead; Italy. Take for example the Bloody Memory he fixed me, fortified with bottarga -  a salted. cured fish roe, shaved over the fiery concoction. Eccentric but oh, so good!

The Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill: brand new ala-carte brunch menu

COM

As if finding a brunch spot worthy of some Sunday sauntering isn't easy enough; The Pelican does some internal revamps to introduce the new ala carte brunch menu focused on classic East Coast American breakfast favourites. Fuelled by the affordable option to pair your meal with a free flow prosecco; it's little wonder that this establishment gets the chops from me.

However, do note that timing is a little tight on the ultimate weekender session and this boozy brunch is available only on Saturdays from 11am to 3pm with Sundays being represented by tight barricades around the restaurants - closed. Added merits include the stunning views of the Marina Bay waterfront area - tranquil waters lap at your feet (well, technically about a grass patch and pavement away) as you sip on that bubbly with little care in the world.

MUSEO Restaurant: introduces a new Mezzanine 'Dine in a Cup' Menu

COM

3pm on a Saturday afternoon and the reflective glow off the calm waters in the quay area bathes the darkened arenas of Museo in a mysterious yet somber lighting. The mum squeals and lets off a sigh of disapproval, fueled by memories of discomfort from having to endure those chic sofa-like seating during a recent wedding banquet. I made a mental note then skimmed past those dubious looking couches in search of more comfortable grounds; seeking solace in a pain-splattered high grounds of the restaurant which offered a birds eye view of the establishment.

On the table, a newly minted mezzanine 'dine-in-a-cup' menu featuring some of their signature dishes in cup-sized portions; enabling diners to enjoy a larger range of the eclectic cuisine on offer.

Edge @ Pan Pacific Hotel - Theatrical Sunday Champagne Buffets

COM

Hailed to be the longest brunch, I arrived at the grounds in search of a elongated magic carpet of sorts festooned with delicacies representing lands of unimaginable outreach only to be met with death glares when the reality of "long" being represented by its 4 hours duration dawned upon me. Pardon my ignorance but I don't deal well with buffet lines and my failure to even surpass 2 hours in an overindulging session makes me the worst kind of companion for sessions such as these.

The newly revamped Edge Buffet at Pan Pacific does however pique my interest solely based on the upbeat music drifting out for the make-shift area right smack in the middle of the buffet grounds with a live band stationed within. "Let's lose our minds and go f****** crazy. I-I-I-I-I-I keep on hoping we'll eat cake by the ocean." warbled vigorous voices without so much of a strain.

And that's exactly what I did.

Si Wei Yan 思味筵: Fall on Deaf Ears

COM

The title will explain itself in awhile... but now let me proceed to mop off the beads of sweat that have gathered at my temples as I scroll through the feed of dishes carrying too much spiciness in its wake.

Si Wei Yan, the newest Szechuan cuisine restaurant to reside along wild child alley Club Street, may seem a tad out of place in the bar saturated zone - it's imposing outfit reminiscent of a Chinese spa rather than a racy szechuan restaurant. The pet project of the owners of Si Wei Mao Cai in Chinatown -  思味筵 oozes finesse; the blast of cold air within its facade preparing one for the flavor assault about to unfold.

Antoinette: 4th Anniversary Set Menu

COM

Disregard my prejudices towards Antoinette please. A couple of macarons later and I was too quick to call the shots on the establishment. Time evidently helped to settle ill feelings and perhaps soothe out operational hiccups; years later I was back to sample the 4th Anniversary set menu at the local establishment that had taken to expanding its dominion to 2 other outlets outside of its Penhas Road headquarters.

In celebration of its 4th birthday, Chef Pang has rolled out a 4 course set menu available in May for a budget friendly $40++ per pax. The verdict after the jump.

But first, let's talk CAKE.
