Known for its premium durian desserts, Goodwood Park hotel holds the realm of being one of the best dessert makers, where hotels are concerned. L'Espresso is proud to be dishing out a Victorian English theme high tea buffet till the 22nd July. Boasting a huge variety of savoury pastries, fresh fruit, sweets and bite-sized pastries, you'll feel the imminent tug of your waistband. Here are some of my favourites.

For the first time in all my Fat Cow experiences, I sat at the sector coined as the 'lounge bar' for my meal and as I must admit that being denied of the mysterious nature of traipsing down the unassuming corridor to enter the gorgeous dining open dining hall, did remove from the novelty of the Japanese steakhouse experience. But then again, I was here for the new Omakase menus with a pronounced shift of focus to the nigiri sushi, hence the change of atmosphere was one that was required and almost mandatory in a sense, that it put the illustrious yearnings of wagyu beef at bay.

For the first time ever, 7 legendary hawker dishes come together at the luxe Shangri La Hotel's Lobby Lounge at lunch. It's as easy as choosing one main from the range before digging into the plethora of local delights on the rather extensive line-up which feature Popiah, Kueh Pie Tee, Braised Pork Belly, Ayam Buah Keluah, Cheng Tng, and finally concluding the debauchery with nonya kuehs from HarriAnns.
I applaud the hotel's ability to recalibrate something as easily accessible as Bak Chor Mee and make diners see it with fresh eyes; albeit for the convenience of choosing from the best representations in the land without the long sufferance of queueing nor enduring the outdoor elements. As a bonus, each monthly edition of new Heritage Weekend popups features a live station headlining a beloved hawker classic - Prata from Springleaf Prata Place in March and the much lauded Chendol from The Coconut Club in April (happening today!).

Just like how there are split camps for "biscuits or cream" for Oreos, the same goes for tarts.
Some prefer the crusts, others fancy the filling. If you're a fan of cheese tarts, but only fancy the cream cheese filling, rejoice! PABLO Singapore is releasing Nude, a cheese "tart" without the crust.

Having recently been caught in the crossfires of a conversation that revolved around breads at a dinner table has really made me evaluate my favourite picks. When asked which my favourite bread shop was, the answer - Asanoya. And with their recent downsizing of breads to paw sized awesomeness to abet eating on-the-go, it's easy to see why I'm so besotted.

Kakigori is a Japanese shaved ice dessert that dates back to the 11th century. It was initially made only for the Japanese elites but have since gained popularity in Japan over the past few decades. Riding on the wave of shaved ice, Kori King is the pioneer to offer Kakigori in Singapore in a young more hipster-ish kind of settings at really wallet-friendly pricing.
Made from ingredients imported from Japan with no additives, colourants or chemical flavours, Kori King offers its customers an extensive menu of different flavours to choose from. This includes local delights such as Gula Melaka, popular favourites - Matcha and fruity flavours such as Mango and Strawberry.
Things to do this weekend: Sansiri's The Finest Thai Event
Hot, sweaty bodies push up against you and you revel in the occasional bursts of fresh relief as you round the corners of the festival grounds which house the cooler machines. As uncomfortable as it reads, you get a sense of satisfaction, almost akin to traversing the grounds of the former Bangkok markets. The hustle and bustle combined with the excitement conjured from discovering something new around every corner is infectious. For those of you who aren't aware, Sansiri's The Finest Thai Event takes place this weekend, running from the 8th -10th September on the plush grounds of the Royal Thai Embassy (yet another reason to visit the festival).
What should you expect? Food of course! And lots of it, a good mix of Thailand favourites as well as local vendors who have proven their mettle and worth amongst Thai cuisine aficionado's here in Singapore. Some of the good folks include Kombi Rocks, Soi Thai Soi Nice (click to read my review), Porns Thai Food and April's Bakery amongst a bevy of other delicious things.
Unavoidable to the inquisitive eye are the snaking lines that have formed for the famed After You Shibuya Toast. Take note that due to heavy demand, these are only served during 12pm to 2pm and 4pm to 6pm or until the item is sold out from its daily limitation. So be quick and nimble to avoid disappointment. Oh, and there's a cash only rule so bring some moolahs only with you.
But besides the gluttony that is often associated with Bangkok night markets, there's a whole sluice of other activities that are taking place simultaneously. The aim, to showcase Thailand's hip, cosmopolitan lifestyle right in the heart of Orchard Road.
Take a tour of the grounds and admire the delicate craftsmanship of skilled artisans - there's Thai Calligraphy and weaving to provide entertainment when the food situation gets a tad overwhelming. And as the night draws on, traditional dance performances and live acts put on by Paradise Bangkok will fill in the gaps. Don't miss out! Oh and there's an added incentive - Admission is free! So what are you waiting for?
Best selling beer -Singha beer represents at the festival! Quench your thirst here!
Kin Arai Thai Kitchen along Jalan Sultan dishes out their fiery fare here too!
If you're a Thai tea fanatic, options are aplenty at the grounds. Come take your pick.
Last but not least, visit "The Finest of Living" zone and get to know more about the neighbourhood of Thong Lo and Ekkamai and stand a change to win a plane ticket to Bangkok. All you have to do is snap and share as many photos as you like with the hashtags #SansiriGlobal #SansiriThailand #SansiriTheFinestThai.
The Finest Thai Event runs from 8th - 10th September 2017 from 12pm - 9pm, conveniently located along Orchard Road, it's just beckoning for you to grab the entire family and head down for a culturally enriching experience.

Despite the recent, and when I say 'recent', I'm referring to a good 10 culinary years in Singapore's culinary context, Spanish cuisine has seen a booming business amongst diners. Hence its not peculiar that I've never had the urge to venture into a new tapas joint in search of greener, more authentic pastures, since most of us would have settled into the constancy of our regular Spanish joint when the craving hits. Binomio on Craig road may be a homestead for some of you, hence this news might come across as pleasantries.
D+1, the largest Spanish company in Asia's F&B industry and regional franchise owners of popular frozen yogurt chain llaollao has decided to expand its portfolio, adding a casual tapas dining concept to its empire. And despite the mass-market appeal of the brand, the authenticity factor is not displaced in the new venture, Tapas Club, located in Orchard Central. Executive Chef Jose Alonso (also Head chef of Binomio) keeps things on a tight leash and the dishes are relatable, most of them tugging at the heart strings in regards to flavours.

With the news abuzz these days with how retail in Orchard Road is experiencing a decline in footfall and tourists receipts, it's no surprise that tenants in the vicinity are devising new ways to entice consumers to shop, dine or simply chill out over a cup of coffee; or in this case, a freshly brewed pot of tea. At Steamroom with The Pillar and Stones (SRPS), that's where you can experience a unique three-in-one concept, that's part 'kaffatea' room or Steamroom, part restaurant - The Pillar, and art space - Stones; hence the name.

You've heard of Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin in B4 of Ion Orchard? Lucky you, because it took me a whole 8 years since its setup in 2009 to chance upon its existence. The relentless search for Singapore's best Tonkatsu never once leading me to the food basement of this human-overrun commonplace. Fortunately for me, this bane was recently overhauled when a photo assignment brought such unexpected pleasures to my senses, after my first apprehensive bite of the Katsu sandwich. A third generation breaded pork cutlet recipe sandwiched between white bread is a no-brainer winner. This idea spawned by Nobukatsu-san during World War I when faced with the dire situation of severe rice shortage - nothing short of genius and we're glad it's a staple on the menu.
Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin remains steadfast to its roots, the menu not deviating far from it's superstar product, the tonkatsu. However, that is soon to change as the kitchen buzzes with additions to the menu.

Rise and Shine! Brunch in Singapore is bigger than ever. You can barely set foot out of your front door during the weekend (or miss out on social media) without stumbling across a mugshot of avocados on toast or finding the waft of buttery waffles in the air. A spin-off from the popular jazz brunches in New York and London, Montreux Jazz Cafe in Orchard introduces their new weekend brunch experience, highlighted by a slew of Singapore's brightest jazz talents serenading patrons with their soothing vocals as you throw back the champagne (ferociously). To start off your weekend in style, this is the place you gotta be.

I've heard word about this place even before I set foot in the joint. And that my friends, is the hallmark of a business's success, the power of the word-of-mouth. Thanks to my side-line activities *ahem*, I had the privilege to try out Inaniwa Yosuke's infamous udon.
We started off with the largest set in the house - The Tempura and Ajikurabe Set ($32) which comes with Tempura, tsuke udon with both syoyu and GomaTare dipping sauces, kake udon, creme caramel and the whole she-bang. For that price, this set is a whopping steal and is sufficient for two peckish diners looking for a quick afternoon fix. Having had an age old history that concerned the Emperor's decree to continue udon production solely for the royal family, you know for sure that you're in for the real deal. The noodles were finer than commercialised renditions with a slippery edge and glistening appearance, the very epitome of Akita craftsmanship and skill in Inaniwa udon making.
I much prefer the Tsuke Udon, the coolness of the strands accentuated when dipped into simply made syoyu sauce with a scatter of scallions and accompanying wasabi.
We were also fortunate to be given the chance to try the Inaniwa Yosuke X Machida Shoten Collaboration dish with the broth single-handedly prepared by the talented folks of the latter establishment also based in Japan Food Town. A rich Tonkotso broth, this is one to leave a pleasant oleaginous finish to your meal, the clever infusion of yuzu lightening the flavor, balancing out the finesse of the springy udon to the robust but intriguing broth. This is served with Kakuni Tamago, stewed Hokkaido beef yielding to the bite with little resistance while the flavored egg cooked in shoyu injects a high level of comfort. A definite must-have within the short 2 week span of its collaboration.
Tokyo Dashi Maki Tamago ($12)
I think it's not required that I wax any more lyrical about this place. The simple bullet-point listing, substantial evidence enough to prove that Inaniwa is worth a visit anytime. Heed my advice and scoot on over now!

If RedRing Treasure was born out of a moment of Eureka!; boy would I not have surprised. Especially given the founding family's deep rooted history in engineering. But for a fact that the business was the successful product of a young culinary talent's tenacity in the kitchen and his parents unwavering trust and support in his work; did it struck a chord in my heart.

Hokkaido Izakaya in Japan Food Town is an extension of its exuberant culture displayed on Tanjong Pagar road. Yet, even with it branching out into a less exciting venue (in a mall), the restaurant always sees the backing of long lines. If that doesn't say something about the quality of food here, I really don't know what else justifies as valid proof.
Relying on Hokkaido's produce as vision, the establishment dishes out the best of ingredients from towns such as Yakumo, Akkeshi, Furano and Kamishihoro - albeit not in your usual omakase fou-fou but in a more approachable manner with wallet friendly prices to boot. Hence the long lines that you'll have to endure. But let's get this straight, if you're looking to kick off an illustrious night with friends, then a meal at Hokkaido Izakaya would be 'it'. Bearing in mind that they do carry a rather pervasive list of sake and shoju to fuel any conversation.

Alright, so my favourite Black Tuesdays (pictured above) has been wiped clean off the menu at Manhattan Bar, but hey.. the new Central Park menu does prove to contain some gems in its sprawling green realms. Representing the 843-acres of public park, Central Park provides a piece of tranquil serenity in the midst of the concrete jungle it is located in; the alcoholic libations and accompanying snacks do walk in the same relaxed stride.
