Asanoya Bakery will have you tossing up between new savoury and sweet specials

Having recently been caught in the crossfires of a conversation that revolved around breads at a dinner table has really made me evaluate my favourite picks. When asked which my favourite bread shop was, the answer - Asanoya. And with their recent downsizing of breads to paw sized awesomeness to abet eating on-the-go, it's easy to see why I'm so besotted.

Then there's their new savoury offerings -  Tofu and Mushroom Tartine ($4.50) - sauteed tofu, hon-shimeiji, shiitake and king oyster mushrooms with togarashi, spring onions on open-face baguette loaf. The tofu, stuffed into the crooks and crevices of the toasted bread almost akin to cream cheese except redolent with spices and a certain je ne sais quoi from smoke  imbued. Lovers of mushrooms will take to this item like a fat kid to chocolate cake: the generous splay of various mushrooms from hon-shimeiji to shiitake and king oyster, all dusted with togarashi peppers beckons for some fork action.

Or, say yes to the new Tomato and Mozzarella ($3.20) - a hot pocket filled with mozzarella, gruyere cheese, honey cherry tomatoes rein-forced with garlic and black pepper. The base spinach focaccia bread on its own is satisfying enough, but add on the sudden spikes of saltiness and bursts of tomatoes and you've got a real winner on your hands.

If you've bought into the lures of their original white chocolate brulee croissant's saccharine charms, save your pretty penny for their new Royal Milk Tea edition instead. It taste as divine as it sounds, the cream unfailingly thick with lashings of milk tea, emphasised with the presence of tea leaves. There's also the strawberry version which sports a cutesy pink interior that feels stylish and of-the-moment, yet not leaning towards being too artificial. It smacks you with just enough tangy fruit and sweetness. The tops of both cubes crunchified with a refined layer of burnt sugar that commands you attention.

Oh, I hear word that Sakura specials are on the way! Look out for those.
