Surf + Turf at The Westin Singapore's Seasonal Tastes

Located in the heart of Singapore's Central Business District at Asia Tower, Seasonal Tastes at Westin Hotel overlooks the best of Singapore's sights - the Marina Bay Sands, Merlion and the likes. Known to offer a premium buffet spread at a reasonable price, guest chef, James Marshall of W Taipei is here with flavours close to his heart.

Expect to find American classics such as Mini Boston Lobster in Brioche, Brown Sugar Jack Daniels Baby Back Pork Ribs and Fresh Mexican Chorizo Enchilada. For a buffet's standard, the Pork Ribs were unexpectedly tender. Though not till the extent of the fall of the bone, that would be tantamount to splitting hairs, all in all, it was sufficiently easy to manipulate. The sauce was not overwhelming sweet and did not cloud the natural juiciness from the pork. The Baked Enchilada had pork chorizo, blackened shrimp and was baked like a Lasagne. Although this had no distinct differentiating factors from a regular lasagne, I can fully comprehend the comfort it would provide on a chilly night.

Married to a Taiwanese, Chef James picked up recipes of Taiwanese dishes such as Wok-fried Beef Tenderloin with Taiwanese Barbeque sauce, Oyster Noodles and Taiwanese Beef Noodles. The beef cubes were largely reminiscent of the familiar grilled beef cubes commonly found in Taiwan night markets, except that these are executed with tons more finesse. Although the sauce was nothing to rave about, the moistness and the slight char on its exterior imbued the meat with a revered smokiness. The Oyster noodles were presented quite haphazardly in a large pot, rendering the vermicelli strands over-plump and saturated with soup, so much so that structural integrity was compromised. On the other hand, the Beef Noodles are prepared to order at the Noodle station and diners have the liberty to customise their noodles. The beef broth, albeit light, had a notable and pleasant herbaceousness stemming from the greens.

Make a conscious note to restrain yourself at the buffet table to make space for the beautifully crafted sweet treats such as the Rainbow Cake, Cinnamon Apple tart and a variety of mousse. Don't miss out on the homemade Ice Cream, especially the Avocado flavour. Lovers of avocados will adore this; its impeccably smooth, creamy and rich without the bitterness from the kernels.

In the month of August, UOB Cardmembers get to enjoy 1-for-1 deals on all adult diners when paying with UOB credit cards. Now, that's a deal.
