La Ventana: launches all-new Spanish High Tea

Leisurely afternoons come by so rarely; and when they do. All you want sometimes, is just a soothing cuppa tea followed by a convoy of dainty sweet treats to put the cocktail hour into perspective; and perhaps the bonus company of a good-humoured individual to match your devour-ment pace.

Rolled out on the 3rd May, the 3 tiers of goodness at La Ventana includes puffy cinnamon laden churros, salmon gravlax croissant, homemade salted caramel chocolate tartlets and more, prepared single-handedly by the Pastry Chef at La Ventana.

Sure, it's hard to shed some Spanish light into this glorious afternoon ritual but La Ventana does it cogently with churros, a popular authentic Spanish snack, judicious with cinnamon sugar, served with warm and thick chocolate sauce for hits of deliciousness. Classic Spanish Jamon is subject to some tinkering as well and served on 'Pan de Cristal', or crystal bread - a traditional Spanish ciabatta style bread with a crisp light crust that shatters to smithereens almost like a cracker.

Another dish that is well-heeled in Spanish influence is the Jamon ham and Cream cheese sandwich. Toasted pieces of sweet toast soothing quivering tongues with its sweet-salty combination of smooth cream cheese with cured ham - quite possibly the rolls royce of lunch-box ham and cheese toasties.

For a round up of the entire spread. Here goes.
  • Churros with Cream and Chocolate Sauce
  • Cranberry Scones with Strawberry Preserves
  • Brioche bun with creamy crab and egg filling
  • Spanish jamon with Crystal bread
  • Smoked Salmon Croissant
  • Dark Chocolate Crunch Tart
  • Mango White Chocolate Mousse Cake
  • Pain au Chocolat
  • Spanish Iberico ham and Cream cheese sandwich
  • Macarons
  • Berry Ganache Bon Bon
The high tea menu, working to even satiate heartier appetites as the healthy portions have a balanced anchoring on both savoury and sweet items.

Evaluating the comprehensive spread, a few of my favourite items are the pain au chocolat and the Dark Chocolate crunch tart. Each of these demonstrating a fine set of skills from puff pastry making the proficient method of landing a perfectly 90 degrees angle sans the puffing on the edge of tart crust. But do note that majority of the sweet items are available on rotational basis; its specifics varied from day to day depending on the chef's creative streaks.

To be enjoyed with either coffee or pot of tea; this elegant 3-tiered Spanish high tea at La Ventana is served on weekdays from 3pm to 5pm for just $38++ per pax (min. 2 pax). A worthwhile investment if you're looking for some peace and quiet with a smashing length of lush greenery to rest your fatigued eyes upon.
